Math Lesson 76: Negative and Zero Exponents

What the heck is a negative exponent? Well, here’s what it is: x-2. Or where you looking for something more detailed? If you were, then here’s what it is. Solving a negative exponent is the same thing as writing a fraction of 1/x2. Notice the absence of the negative sign in front of the 2. That’s on purpose.

Zero exponents are going to always be equal to 1, no matter what number it is. Even if it’s a variable, x, it’s still going to be equal to 1. That’s about it!
