Everybody knows about the Whole Foods Market. I personally just didn’t know who made it. Well, John Mackey was one of the founders that did.
He claimed to be a “democratic socialist,” whatever the heck that’s supposed to be, while in college, but then realized that if he wanted to start a business, this was not the correct ideology to have. But this wasn’t his only problem, as he was constantly getting complaints from workers, who were saying they weren’t getting paid enough, and customers, who said they were paying too much, at a time when he could barely pay the bills.
He is definitely now a libertarian, as he advocates for smaller government and more economic freedom. His blog, with his thoughts on current problems, can be found on the “blog” portion of the Whole Foods Market website.
He has decided to limit his yearly income to a $1 (I don’t know how that’s possible), donated all of his stocks to charity, and started a emergency fund program for stuff who are having personal difficulties.
He has also written two books. The title of one of them is called Conscious Capitalism, and I think, going by the title, that is should be a good read.
