Math Lesson 163: Scale Changes

Just like we did yesterday, we can use matrices to help us solve scale change problems. It’s actually very simple!

We symbolize the fact that we’re representing a scale change when we write this:
Sa,b

In this case, the a and the b function as the x,y coordinates on a graph. So if we’re trying to find the scale change of a triangle by 4 times horizantilay and 2 times vertically. The equation for the triangle would look something like this:
[a 0]  [ x1 x2 x3]
×
[0 b]  [ y1 y2 y3]

All you have to do is plug in the numbers and multiply!
