Knighthood

During the Middle Ages, there were three different fighting classes: Archers, Foot Soldiers, and Knights. Knights are pretty much the equivalent of human tanks, having layers upon layers of armor and a large sword. These guys could plow through the other fighting classes with ease. They were also the ones that got paid the most, since a horse cost almost as much as a small plane! They were so well armed and armored that a page, or servant, had to take care of his weapons and armor.

Now lets talk about knighthood. A son of a noble man was sent off to the neighboring castle to start his life of knighthood. During this time, the son is working on improving his upper body strength, how to ride a horse, and begin learning how to fight with a sword and spear. They practice on wooden dummies that spin around, causing the child to learn how to dodge, parry, and attack. The next step to gaining knighthood is page ship. During this time you take care of the knight’s armor, and continue to learn how to fight and ride a horse. After this is squire ship. At this time, you learn how to fight in full armor, and once you learn all your duties and how to fight, you get granted knighthood.
