Science Lesson 182: How Computers Connect to the Internet

Although this information is dated (pretty severely. Most of us get our data from satellites), some people still use cable internet, and so it might be of some use as a history+science lesson for some people.

The way that computers used to (and a minority of them still do) connect to the internet was by the form of cables. These cables basically had modems encrypt information at the beginning of the cable, turning that information into 1’s and 0’s, and then that information is sent through the tube using refraction.

That’s basically it!
