Science Lesson 176: What is SEO?

If you have a website, you want to make sure a lot of people come to your website. That’s obvious. Every person wants that. The one thing that you don’t know about is how do you do it? Sure, you can post a link on every social media account you have, but not everybody who sees that link is going to click on it.

So how do you do it? Well, this is where SEO comes in. To understand what Search Engine Optimization is, you have to first understand how search engines work in general.

The way that search engines work is that they collect information on every website that exists. This is so that they can more accurately give you the results that you’re looking for. The way this works is that the search engines scans for key words the website has used that you’ve entered into the search terms.

Also, search engines check how many other websites have links to your website, as well as the context and wording of the links. For example, if you have a link that’s called books, in a sentence: Amazon is great for finding books, then the search engine can say “hey, you can find books on Amazon!”

The reason why this is important is because over 94% of people on Google (the most predominant search engine) don’t even look at the second page if they don’t find what they’re looking for. Out of those 94%, 63% don’t even look further than the first three results.

So if your website isn’t even on the front page, there’s less than a 6% chance that somebody is going to find it. You have to optimize your SEO by using key-words and spreading your website so that people might link to it.
