Personal Finance Lesson 013: High-Risk Time Investments

This might seem like a very broad category> But really, you can narrow it down to only two: sports and music. The reason why they are high-risk investments is because there is an incredibly small chance you’re actually going to make it into the big leagues.

Here’s the data for baseball. The chances of you going directly from high school to NCAA is 5.6%. The chance of you going from NCAA to pro is 10.5%. The chance of you going from high school to pro is 0.5%. And this is one of the sports that has a higher chance of getting big bucks.

As for musicians, it’s an archaic type of entertainment. I’m talking about classical performers. Technology and apps such as YouTube completely outstripped the musicians, because now, nobody wants to go to the symphonies, pay a pretty hefty sum, and sit for hours on your rear to hear people sing, when you could do it in the comfort of your home?

So what they have to do is adapt, and some have. That’s the only way for you to survive as a classical musician.
