In chapter 5, Alice meets the blue caterpillar, who gives her means to grow and shrink when ever she pleases, since one side of the mushroom makes her grow taller, whereas the other makes her grow taller.
After some hit-and-miss attempts at using the mushroom pieces, she finally manages to get herself to the height she wants to be.
Using these means, she goes to many different places, including the duchess’s house and the mad tea party.
At the duchess’s house, she meets the Cheshire cat, a cat that can disappear and talk, as well as always were a scary grin on his face.
